Shell Alternative Fuels (LNG, HVO)

Fuel for sustainable business!

We must all support the decarbonization of road transport. And to do that, we can now rely on new, low-emissions fuels, such as LNG and bioLNG or HVO.

LNG and bio LNG

Shell is the largest independent producer of liquid natural gas (LNG) in the world, present at each stage of the process: from searching for gas fields to distribution.

Benefits for your business:

  • Cleaner combustion. Shell LNG and bioLNG help reduce vehicle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 22% compared to conventional diesel.
  • Noise reduction. Liquid natural gas allows to reduce engine noise by up to 50%. This improves driver well-being and allows vehicles to enter low noise zones.
  • Safety. When used correctly, LNG poses no risks. The level of risk is no higher than for other regularly used fuels.
  • Environmental protection. LNG-fueled vehicles allow transport companies to reduce their carbon footprint and     provide services to the most demanding clients.
  • LNG network expansion. The number of LNG stations keeps growing. Stations of this kind already exist in Poland, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, and Turkey, etc.

Shell HVO

Renewable diesel or hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) can reduce fuel-related CO2emissions by up to 90%* compared to diesel. Made from certified waste materials and compatible with all existing diesel engines, Shell Renewable Diesel represents a viable low-carbon alternative for commercial fleet owners looking to decarbonise their operations, without compromising on performance.

Benefits for your business:

  • Cleaner burning. As well as reducing up to 90%* of CO2 emissions, using Shell Renewable Diesel results in less particulate and Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions. HVO is an extremely pure and efficient fuel with no aromatics and sulphur in it.
  • Engine noise reduction. Shell Renewable Diesel minimises engine noise, providing a quieter and more comfortable driving experience. This feature enables vehicle usage in noise-sensitive areas.
  • Improved Cold Start. Shell Renewable Diesel's high cetane number and low cloud point provide enhanced cold-start performance, ensuring faster and smoother ignition and a reduced chance of gelling, even in cold climate conditions. This feature promotes reliable and efficient year-round vehicle operation.
  • Simplified Implementation. The compatibility of Shell Renewable Diesel with existing diesel infrastructure and engines means it can be used as an alternative, with no new vehicles or modifications needed. This allows for a seamless integration into current operations, minimising downtime and ensuring uninterrupted fleet performance.
  • Expanding network. As the world's leading blender and distributor of biofuels, Shell is committed to expanding the production and investment in Shell Renewable Diesel. This means that the network of HVO providing Shell sites is going to expand rapidly. Currenlty Shell renewable diesel is available in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Netherlands and Belgium.

*Disclaimer: Between 80%-90% Green House Gas emission (these emission comprises CO₂, methane CH₄, dinitrogen oxide N₂O), on a product lifecycle basis compared to B7 diesel.
